Rosie Watson: Executive Director/Teacher

Rosie Watson is a homeschool mother of three grown children and has been teaching for over 25 years. As a featured convention speaker, author and teacher Rosie brings to the homeschool community a wealth of knowledge and experience and a powerful message of inspiration. She is the founder and director of the Center for Home Education in NE Fort Worth, a homeschool haven that encompasses a curriculum store, learning center, performing arts theatre and coffee house. Rosie is a licensed facilitator for the Career Coaching for Students workshops, which provide homeschool students with the tools they need to discover their God given purpose. Rosie is also the author of the writing program, The Wonder of Words. www.centerforhomeeducation.com.

 

 

Melissa Hardy: Store Manager

 

Melissa Hardy is a home educator and mom of three children.  She has a heart for encouraging other home educators.  In addition to her oversight at the Center for Home Education, she coordinates our monthly Teen Events and Graduation ceremony.  She serves the home educators of Keller by moderating the Keller Area Homeschool yahoo loop and coordinating the Keller Area PE class.

Our Teachers:

Pam Monck:

Pam has a BA in International Affairs from Trinity University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston and practiced civil trial law for eight years before having children.  Pam's previous work experiences include interning for a congressman in Washington, DC, and being a tour guide at the Alamo.  She has been homeschooling for 10 years, and her goal in whatever she teaches is to make her students "think" and "discuss.

Brian Thomas:

Brian is currently in school at the University of Dallas completing his Masters in Arts and Humanities. He completed his undergraduate work at Dallas Baptist University and holds a degree in Biblical Studies and Philosophy. Brian has done substitute teaching in the Birdville Independent School District for both middle and high school students. We rejoice that Brian has been led to join with us in our mission.

 

Yolanda Cranford:

Yolanda was drawn to Art from early childhood. She loved the smell of manila paper, the feel of wax crayons, the look of shiny paint, the sound of gooey clay but not the taste of paper mache! Yolanda holds a Bachelor's degree in Art Education and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Fibers/Clay. She has been homeschooling for the past 11 years.

 

 Anicia D. Brown (Theatre Instructor/Director) has for the past 30+ years been involved with over 200 productions with various companies including Theatre Coppell, St. Phillip’s Presbyterian Church, The City of Euless Summer Musicals, Lancaster Dinner Theatre, Grand Prairie Community Theatre, and Yokota Players – Tokyo, Japan.  Anicia has served as the Artistic Director for OnStage in Bedford and served as the Performing Arts Coordinator with the City of Euless where she also taught theatre based classes.  She has taught at NE Tarrant County College for Kids, St. Vincent’s Episcopal School, Rhythm Nation Performing Arts, and was owner and operator Starlight Performing Arts Theatre & School where she produced more than 50 full-scale productions as well as several recitals, concerts and special events.  In 2005, Anicia was honored to have been named a Woman of Influence by the Fort Worth Business Press.  She is currently an associate Director and Board Member for the Regal Opera Company and choreographer for Spring Garden Elementary.  Anicia lives in Euless with her wonderful husband, Mike and her two most favorite productions, her kids, Leland and Aja. 

 

 

Kathy Abelanet

 

Kathy has a B.S. in Secondary Education and has taught English, Spanish, and ESL in the public school system.  She left teaching for a while to be the Teen Court Coordinator for the North Richland Hills Teen Court working extensively with young people.  She most recently taught Spanish to preschoolers and Kindergarteners at Discovery School.  Although teaching is one of her passions, she is most proud of her accomplishment as mother to her two amazing children, Camille – age 8, and Nicolas – age 5.  She thanks God everyday that He bestowed and entrusted such incredible gifts to her.

 

 

DonnaJoy Boxerman

 

DonnaJoy Boxerman has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Secondary 
Education Certification, and a Masters of Education in Mathematics for Secondary Education. She started teaching mathematics in public schools at 20, and has gone on to teach at 5 Christian schools, a community college, a university, and at least 3 home school coops. She has over 18 years of experience teaching mathematics. She has been homeschooling for 20 years, since the oldest started kindergarten, and now 3 of her children are in college.

 

Elizabeth Harkins

 

Elizabeth Harkins is a Texas certified math teacher with over 15 years in the classroom. In the last 6 years Elizabeth taught high school mathematics for the Blue Ribbon Award winning James Bowie High School in Austin, TX.

 

Kari Minter:

 

After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in English Education and a minor in history, Kari moved to San Antonio, TX where she began her teaching career. While in San Antonio, she not only found the ideal job teaching high school English, she met her husband, Brent. She taught PreAP English for 3 years at a magnet high school and quickly grew to enjoy finding creative ways to instill a love of reading and writing in her students. After moving to Fort Worth in 2003 so Brent could finish seminary, Kari taught for 2 years at a lower income middle school. Her belief in using creative and artistic means to motivate students to learn was confirmed as she watched her students come to love learning. After having her first child, Kari decided to stay home with her children and raise them while continuing to tutor both in English and for SAT prep a few evenings a week. She now has 2 daughters and truly enjoys teaching them all the little fun things that life has to offer.

 

Christine Palmer

 

Christine is a former homeschool student and an artist, pursuing her degree in Fine Art at North Lake College in Irving. Christine is passionate about art and has enjoyed drawing and painting from a young age. She has been involved in art camps and art classes for kids for the past two years and also works part-time in a pottery studio. She enjoys sharing her love of art with others and encouraging students to develop and maintain their artistic skills.

 

Krystal Bare: 

 

Krystal has been employed in the Teleradiology industry, in a clinical emergency room setting, and in medical credentialing giving her over 10 years experience in the medical field. Having been a homeschooling parent for 7 years, God has lead her to share her love for Science, Biology, and Anatomy with students; to give them the knowledge to seek out the wonders of God's world and his creations. Krystal is currently at Dallas Baptist University working towards a Bachelors of Science with a major in Biology with plans to attend nursing school. 

 

Sherri Heinzman:

Before marrying her husband, Gregg in 1992, Sherri developed her ability to connect with her students by serving in full-time children and youth ministries. These ministries included: Missionary to Mexico, and in the U.S. positions as Children’s Pastor & Youth Pastor.
Sherri worked 14 years in the banking, accounting, and finance industry with Banks, Savings and Loans, a Finance Company, and the Oil & Gas Leasing Industry before staying home to care for and teach Sara and Leah. As a devoted home school mom and leader for 10 years, the Lord has given Sherri a talent and love for teaching; and to help students and parents alike to learn how to be godly stewards in Education, math, Financing, Banking, Investments, and Economics.  Equipping them with the knowledge and tools of how to be a good steward of the blessings God is giving them. Over the last 7 years, Sherri has worked with Dr. Miles Jones and taught all the levels of Super Math, Super Reading, and Matrix Math/Reading.  As of the 2008 fall semester, she has returned to teaching with the Super Math Group at “Creative Arts in Action.” Sherri has also been working with an educational foundation to teach financial literacy for High School students. She has been asked to work with the educational foundation to develop criteria on which to base a scholarship for a deserving homeschooled student.
 

Lara Bledsoe:

Lara has a B.M. in Music Therapy and has used her expertise and gifts to impact children and adults in public schools, nursing homes and hospitals for over 7 years. After becoming a wife, and mother of two wonderful children, now 10 and 7, Lara moved her focus to raising her family yet still finds time to teach flute, piano, guitar lessons and Kindermusik to babies through 5 year olds. Over the last 5 years Lara has used music with the babies and nursery teachers at Gateway Church in Southlake. Lara is very excited to extend her passion for music, teaching and sign language to your precious children.

Melanie Tucker

Melanie graduated from Texas Women's University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Dance Minor. She is a Texas certified Teacher in Secondary English and Dance. In the last few years, Melanie has taught English 1 Pre AP, English III and Dance at the Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth, TX. She is a member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators and the Drill Team Directors of America. Melanie is married with 3 children.  

 

 Cathy Mason

 

Cathy Mason was born and raised in Dallas, TX. Cathy graduated from Baylor University in 1988 with a degree in English Literature and a minor in Business. She then went to the University of Texas at Dallas to receive her certification in Secondary Education. After teaching 7th and 8th grade English in the Richardson school district, she went on to work as the Assistant to the Executive Pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church. It was there in a church Bible study that she met her husband, Scott, and soon moved to Grapevine where he practices dentistry. She is raising two baseball loving sons and has homeschooled them since Preschool. Cathy believes that good writing is most often a result of good reading and seeks to bring enjoyment to both tasks.

 

Jeanne Vrij

 

Jeanne Vrij is a mother of two wonderful children, entering her second year of homeschooling.  She earned a BA in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin, with a minor in Chemistry and Latin. She also holds a teaching certificate in Secondary Composite Science.  She has taught Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, and Latin during her nine years experience in both private and public school settings.  She is a firm believer in relevant "hands-on" learning experiences, and designs her classes to make the lessons meaningful for the students.  Jeanne is excited to be given the opportunity to share her enthusiasm and her passion for learning with the students at the Center for Home Education.

 

Janelle Fouke

 

Before starting a family Janelle worked as a pediatric dental assistant and studied biology at Indiana University. She has been blessed with a wonderful husband and two daughters, ages two and four.  Since starting her family she has continued her studies at the University of Texas at Arlington.  She is a senior working on her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology.  She is a member of Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society and volunteers for the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team.  Janelle is very involved with the children's ministry at her church and loves serving the Lord by teaching His children.  She is passionate about education and exploring God's creation through the sciences. She is excited to share these passions with students at the Center for Home Education.
