Editor in Chief®
Grammar Disasters and Punctuation Faux Pas

Books: reproducible for single-home use

Series Goals--Editor in Chief uses thinking, not memory-based drill and practice, to sharpen students’ language mechanics, academic and test performance, and lifelong communication skills.

Methods-Each book helps children develop the skills of a real copy editor as they focus on finding, analyzing, and correcting errors in context. Children will

bulletexamine and evaluate brief stories, pictures, and captions
bulletidentify errors in the stories and determine how each error should be corrected
bulletinsert, modify, or delete punctuation, capitals, words, and short phrases to make the corrections.

A grammar, usage, and punctuation guide is included in each book to help students correlate their answers with correct rules.

FEATURES & SKILLS

bulletChildren analyze pictures, picture captions, and stories for grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, spelling, usage, capitalization, and content errors, then they edit the errors (using an editing checklist provided, if needed).
bulletThe activities are sequenced according to type, number, and level of errors and the complexity of subject matter.
bulletStyles, content, and illustrations are varied to sustain interest and broaden children's exposure to different writing formats. The editing skills children develop can be applied to their own writing.
bulletDetailed solutions give numbered errors, corresponding rules, and corrected paragraphs (see a detailed solution sample after the A1 activity below). A comprehensive "Guide to Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation" provides more detailed explanations of the rules.

"Great for really 'cementing' what was previously only theoretical knowledge of spelling, grammar, and usage.

"The written material your student will be editing is itself educational, and the program is easy to use."

--Mary Pride,
The Big Book of Home Learning

"Children can improve their spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills in context with the brief exercises in Editor in Chief."

--Cathy Duffy,
Christian Home Educators' Curriculum Manual

"A great follow-up to a child's language curriculum. I was impressed with how they encourage a child to be very observant. These books allow the student to apply the language rules he has learned, and it will help you identify weak points in your child's knowledge of language."

--Peggy Zorn,
Harvest Home Educators

"As a former reporter/editor...I wanted to give my daughters the edge when it comes to mastering English, grammar, punctuation, etc. and this program is ideal! As a new homeschool mother, [I find] your line of books/software is exceptional. [It is] the only schoolwork I've found that my children find challenging. I am telling all my friends about your company. Keep it up."

--Sheilah, Eureka Springs, AR

"An excellent resource for teaching students how to apply grammar skills in context. My son's language arts scores soared on standardized tests after doing this series. Editor in Chief is an all-inclusive program."

--Susan Wold,
American Homeschool Publishing
