American Literature

 

This is a comprehensive language arts and literature studies course that will provide opportunities for writing, and cover: vocabulary, spelling, active reading and reflective thinking.

Grades 10 - 12 - TLP American Literature Series

In the fall we will study American Literature Non-Fiction and Short Stories.

In the spring we will study The Crucible

Class Time: 1 1/2 hours - This is a two-16 week semester totaling 8 months. 

Biography: 

Melanie graduated from Texas Women's University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Dance Minor. She is a Texas certified Teacher in Secondary English and Dance. In the last few years, Melanie has taught English 1 Pre AP, English III and Dance at the Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth, TX. She is a member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators and the Drill Team Directors of America. Melanie is married with 3 children.

The Writing Process

 

This class will cover expository writing and include four basic components: content, style, organization and mechanics. Time will be dedicated also to writing the in class essay. Students will learn how to select and narrow down a topic, gather details for support, form an outline, develop a thesis and organize the writing into well thought out essays. Writing skills will be challenged and refined through classroom instruction, guided practice and at home assignments.
