Physics
with Lab
The
ACEX High School Physics program is an honors level lecture/theory and
lab/practical application combination, using Apologia Physics and other texts, which will introduce students to a wide
variety of topics such as:
Metric
and International Systems of Measure, Dimensional Analysis and Scientific
Notation Reviews, Vector and Scalar Quantities, Velocity, Acceleration,
Displacement, Two-Dimensional Vector Addition and Graphing, Newton’s Laws of
Motion, Mass, Force, Friction, and Inertia, Translational and Rotational Motion
and Equilibrium, First Law of Thermodynamics, Kinetic and Potential Energy,
Work, Power, and Momentum, Simple Machines, Mechanical Advantage and Efficiency,
Waves, Sound, and Light, Geometric Reflection and Refraction,
Magnetism
and Electricity are time constraint dependent.
This
is an upper-level Honors course, and as such, it will demand more intensive
preparation from students. It will
however, be an Algebra II-based regimen as opposed to a calculus-based AP
program.
Consistent with
Honors, a topic related research report will be done in order to fulfill
technology requirements.
Class Time: 2 hours - This is a two-semester course totaling
8 months or 64 hours of class time! Semester 1 runs 14 weeks, Semester 2 runs 18 weeks.
Biography:
Gary Hanna is a State of Texas certified
instructor in Composite Science and has been teaching for over 11 years, most
recently in the Honors Department of Pascal High School in Fort Worth. He is a
home-school parent for the past six years and since retiring from the Public
Schools, is now devoting himself on meeting the educational needs of faith-based
home-school students.
In his classes, Mr. Hanna uses a blend
of lectures, independent and group studies, homework, in-class assignments,
exams, labs and research reports.
